Why I Write These:
These are written in honor of my grandfather, Leon Milton Buttermore, who has a memory that I am envious of, and I hope that by doing this I am able to be the kind of man who starts to treasure the things given him.
Godly thought of the day:
Ephesians 1:18-20 says: “I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlighted in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which exherted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms.”
Amen, Paul! Amen! This is awesome.
First, we have an inheritance because we are Christ’s inheritance! How cool is this?! We belong to Christ. We’re his! Have you ever seen someone not show up to possess a really rich inheritance? No! People don’t miss out on their inheritances. They come and get them. Christ is invested in coming to make sure we’re with him on that fateful day. Wow! That’s just… awesome! I can have confidence in him not because he is my possession, but because I am his possession. And so I don’t have to worry if I’ll be worthy to pick him up, or if it will be too overwhelming to be able to claim Christ. He’s bigger than me. He’s more than capable of claiming and redeeming me as his possession. I rest in that.
But also the hope we have is that God the Father’s power works for those who believe. What is this power we speak of? Paul tells us! It’s the same power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him at the right hand. Our hope is that the power who raised Christ from the dead works for us who believe! We’re going to be raised from death one day and find that one the other side of death is life everlasting.
Yes, Lord. Sign me up for this. Amen. I want this. Can’t wait for Brad to preach this text on Sunday!
Favorite meeting of the day:
Oh my goodness, I met with Yan and was just reading the Bible with him. It. Was. Awesome! He is just getting it and I just feel alive watching him come into possession of his faith. We talked about taking what seeds of faith he has and making his calling and election sure like 2 Peter 1:10 talks about. I’m super pumped to see him come towards this conclusion and find confidence in the work of the Holy Spirit within him. This guy has been incredible to watch come alive. Literally I think I watched him come alive spiritually. What a treat!
Oh, and this was evangelism on a church scale. Two members who are hospitable to international families regularly referred this broken marriage to our counseling pastor who sent him to my ministry that meets on Tuesdays.
Wowwowowowowow! That’s cool. There’s no singular praise or glory for any one of us. But all of us together share in the joy of watching this person come to faith! I’m so in awe of that!
Hardest part of my day:
I had a great day. I can’t think of a thing that seemed hard. It was fan-freaking-tastic.
Favorite moment of the day:
Probably just getting to eat Slim’s with Cole and Michael Gaddy. Two of my favorite brothers. In one place. Talking through ministry and what that’s going to mean. Eating good food. Man, what a great day!
What was the weather like today?:
Just gorgeous. I loved today. I loved all of it.
Most unfaithful moment of my day:
I almost prayed with a client that I met with today. He said he believed in God. I don’t know why I didn’t. I think he said something about normally being private, and I felt that I might be intrusive. But I should have at least asked to do it with him. I think in trying to be sensitive I passed up that opportunity to pray and show the love of the Gospel that way. I don’t really know where he’s at, so it would have been good to do.
What am I currently reading?:

What was for dinner?:
Brats and assorted toppings with Andrew. He made me a blue lemonade drink that we had. Fun night! We talked through many things and had good conversation.
Song of the day:
I Got Your Number by Newsboys – My happy song! It just captures the joy I felt today.
Quote of the day:
“It just feels eye opening” — Yan Huang
Yan literally said this after we finished reading Scripture together. Wow! That’s such Biblical language. What a cool thing! His eyes are opening. The scales are falling off! That’s just the coolest thing I could ever have. You can give me a relationship. You can give me a sweet flick huck in ultimate. You can give me a lot. But nothing compares to seeing that happen!
Prayer of the day:
Lord, your joy is so intense, sweet, and rich. I am in awe of you and the fact that I am your possession. Thank you for that, Lord. I don’t know what else to say. I stand amazed in your presence.
